How to use project instructions in Claude

Create a project from the Claude sidebar, write the rules for that work in its instructions field, and start chats from inside the project so the rules apply.

How to do it

  1. In Claude, open Projects from the sidebar and create one.

  2. If you see a project instructions field, write the rules for that work only.

  3. Start new chats from inside the project so those rules apply.

  4. If there is no instructions field, paste the same rules at the top of the chat. Your plan does not include the field.

Account-wide rules are a different setting, Instructions for Claude, under your initials > Settings. Use that for how you want every answer shaped, and the project for one job.
