How to turn on the camera level on iPhone

Go to Settings > Camera and turn on Level under Composition. In the Camera app, a line in the middle turns solid yellow when the phone is level.

How to do it

  1. Open Settings > Camera.

  2. Under Composition, turn Level on. Turn Grid on too if you want the rule-of-thirds lines.

  3. Open Camera and tilt the phone. A broken line across the middle becomes a solid yellow line when the phone is level.

The level shows for photo, not for every video mode. If you never see it, you are probably in a mode that hides it, or the phone is already level and the line has faded.

Why don't I see the level?

It only shows in photo modes, and it fades once you're already level. Tilt the phone a little and it comes back.

Should I turn on the grid too?

If you like the rule-of-thirds lines, yes. It's the switch next to Level.
