How to turn on Low Power Mode on iPhone

Go to Settings > Battery and turn on Low Power Mode, or tap the battery control in Control Center. The battery icon turns yellow while it's on.

How to do it

  1. Open Settings > Battery and turn Low Power Mode on.

  2. Or open Control Center and tap the battery icon, if you have added that control.

  3. Leave it on until you can charge. The phone offers to turn it off once the battery is back up.

Mail fetch, background app refresh, and some visual effects slow down. Phone calls and the next hour of maps are not the things it cuts.

iOS also offers to enable it automatically at 20 percent. That prompt is enough for most days. Turn it on earlier if you already know the afternoon is long.

Questions people ask

What does Low Power Mode turn off?

It slows mail fetch, background app refresh and some visual effects. Calls, texts and maps still work.

Can it turn on by itself?

The iPhone offers it at 20%. For a fully automatic switch, make a Shortcuts automation that runs when the battery drops below a level you pick.

Is it bad to leave it on all the time?

It doesn't hurt the battery. You just get slower background updates.
