Best iPhone battery tips
The few settings that actually change how long an iPhone lasts, today and over the years: the charge limit, Low Power Mode, a shorter Auto-Lock, and the percentage so you can see what is going on. No battery-saver apps.
How to change the Auto-Lock time on iPhone
Go to Settings > Display & Brightness > Auto-Lock and pick a time. 30 seconds saves the most battery. Pick longer if you read on the phone.
Use it when: A phone left face-up on a table stops showing whatever was open.
How to turn on Low Power Mode on iPhone
Go to Settings > Battery and turn on Low Power Mode, or tap the battery control in Control Center. The battery icon turns yellow while it's on.
Use it when: You get more time when you are away from a charger, by slowing the things you will not notice for an hour.
How to show battery percentage on iPhone
Go to Settings > Battery and turn on Battery Percentage. The number appears inside the battery icon at the top of the screen.
Use it when: A icon that looks half full is not a number you can plan an afternoon around.
Questions people ask
Why is Auto-Lock greyed out?
Low Power Mode fixes it at 30 seconds. Turn Low Power Mode off and you can change it.
What does Low Power Mode turn off?
It slows mail fetch, background app refresh and some visual effects. Calls, texts and maps still work.
Can I see the percentage without turning this on?
Yes. Swipe down from the top-right corner to open Control Center. The percentage shows there.
