How to do it
Open Chrome Settings > Privacy and security > Site settings > Notifications.
Set the default to Don't allow sites to send notifications.
In the Allowed list below, open any site you do not want and choose Block.
Mail and calendar sites are the ones you might want to leave allowed. Everything else in that list is worth a look.
Questions people ask
I get pop-up ads in the corner of my screen. Is this the cause?
Often, yes. Spammy sites ask for notification permission and then send ads. Find the site in the Allowed list and block it.
Will this block Gmail or Calendar notifications?
Only if you block them. Leave the sites you rely on in the Allowed list.
