How to stop your iPhone screen from dimming
Two settings cause most of it. Auto-Brightness lowers the screen whenever the room gets darker, and Auto-Lock fades it out before it locks. Both switches are built in, though one of them is buried in Accessibility.
How to turn off Auto-Brightness on iPhone
Go to Settings > Accessibility > Display & Text Size, scroll to the bottom and turn off Auto-Brightness. The screen then stays at whatever level you set with the slider in Control Center.
Use it when: Use it when the screen keeps getting darker while you read, or the brightness jumps around every time you walk into another room.
How to change the Auto-Lock time on iPhone
Go to Settings > Display & Brightness > Auto-Lock and pick a time. 30 seconds saves the most battery. Pick longer if you read on the phone.
Use it when: A phone left face-up on a table stops showing whatever was open.
Questions people ask
Why isn't Auto-Brightness under Display & Brightness?
Apple moved it to Accessibility years ago. Display & Brightness still has the slider, True Tone and Night Shift, but the on/off switch only lives under Accessibility > Display & Text Size.
Why is Auto-Lock greyed out?
Low Power Mode fixes it at 30 seconds. Turn Low Power Mode off and you can change it.
